Hi there, I'm Julia!
I'm the artist behind all things Juju Creates Art. I’m a full time artist based in Redondo Beach, California, and I create vibrant and textured palette knife paintings using heavy bodied acrylics.
Originally from Kansas, I've been painting my entire life. I studied fine arts in college and pursued this creative passion alongside my love of adventure by going to school abroad and living in some of my favorite cities including Chicago, Sydney, Tokyo, and London before graduating from the University of Sydney in Australia. Much of my artistic inspiration comes from these vibrant cities, where I find joy in the unknown and spontaneous pleasures of life. Since finding what feels like home in Los Angeles five years ago, I've been painting California's stunning landscapes and coastlines ever since.
My Work
I made the switch to painting exclusively with palette knives four years ago, and since then my work has taken on a new life. Rather than trying to control every detail in my subject matter, palette knives allow me to be more free in capturing the feeling and essence of what I see through playful palette knife strokes. In addition to being a painter, I’m also a trained florist, and I love the process of working with my hands to create an arrangement and feel the texture of each flower, then reflect that life onto canvas.
By utilizing a heavy impasto technique, I create a sculptural quality in my paintings that encourages viewers to notice the beautiful nuances of everyday elements in nature, whether that’s through the soft folds of a flower petal, juicy fruit seeds, or the movement of ocean waves. With my vibrant color palettes, bold texture, and feminine aesthetic, my paintings add a fresh pop of color to any space they're in. I'm so grateful every day that I get to live my dream of sharing my art and inspiring joy!
